spruce tree?

Default spruce tree?

not sure what kind of spruce...but it doesnt look good..one pic is today the better looking one is one month ago..all the needles are turning brown. can mites kill a spruce? looks like the cob web mites i see sometimes on azeleas

Did the problem start this year or a previous year?? Is it surrounded by concrete; does a lot of road salt get near the base; have there been severly dry conditions? Mites could have taken advantage of it's weakened state.

A variety of products can elicit this kind of response.

Road salt is one.

Weed and feed fertilizers do this often.

Round UP® herbicide.

Spider mites - if that is what it is - will not be treatable at this stage.


Better pictures would help.

not sure if it started last year.. the tree is over 30 years old.. its at least 25 feet from the street... lots of rain this year..most even, maybe too much rain??

It looks a lot like a White Spruce. If the dead foliage is caused by spider mites will be too late to treat. Pics of the ground around the base would be good. Looks a lot like root damage but ground and tree would give better clues. Has the grade been raised recently?
