I have a young white swamp oak tree - about 3 years old. Something has stripped pieces of bark off the trunk about 4-6 inches off the ground. 1. What should I use to protect the wood where bark is now missing. 2. Is Ropel enough to keep critters away? |

Pictures? Allow the tree to callus over the exposed area on its own, painting is bad news. Is the bark scratched away or has it been knocked off by a mower or brush cutter? |

There's tree guards of all sorts, from wire mesh to split plastic pipe you can use. With RO-PEL animals still have to taste it, maybe do both.

That looks like its been impacted by something. Go down to your local hardware store, grab some small pickets and some chicken wire and fence off the tree. While you're at it you may as well mulch it too.
