Hi folks, Got two silver birches in my garden (Norfolk UK) and they were both trimmed 18 months ago. Last year they were both fine, but this year one appears to be dying quite quickly. All the green leaves that you can see in the photos are from the tree next to it. They are both about 25 years old. What leaves did grow look like they have just died away and turned brown. Not being a tree expert I wanted to make sure that there was nothing I could do before I remove it. Cheers T |

Tree is done. But it looks like the top was lopped off. Here in Ontario, birch are normally left alone, except for deadwood. THis isn't a maple that responds no matter what is done, Topping birches usually kills them.

Thanks for the info. Was almost sure that there was no hope - but dont like to take them out if I dont have to. They were both topped by a "professional", but looks like I wont be going back to them! Cheers T |

Not that cutting a tree like that is ever good, but Silver Birch is one of the worst species to deal with that. Call the said professional to come and remove the trees he destroyed. |
