Default sick Dwarf Japanese maple

Hi all, We have a Dwarf Japanese Maple that was run over by a maintenance truck. It has some significant sentimental value which is why we are trying to save it. As you can see by the attached pics most of it is dead. There are a few healthy leaves growing off of the middle of the trunk. Can I cut these somehow and start a new tree or should I leave the tree as is and hope for the best? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Doug & Donna

Hi Doug and Donna,
Im afraid the long term outcome for the tree will not be so good. You can try cutting the stem just above the new growth and below the damaged area but the tree will not become a very healthy specimen unfortunately, try and see what happens...

You could make a bonsai out of it...

It is alive, so if the sentimental value is strong enough there's no need to kill it.

True but it will never be a great tree even with correct formative pruning
