I have a sapling planted in front of my house and I cannot figure out what exactly it is. I've attached a few pictures for identification help. These are fall pics so some of the leaves have changed. If you know what this tree is, I'd appreciate your help so I will know what to expect as it grows (current height 3 feet) ![]() ![]() ![]() So far, I've had beaches, peaches, and cherries suspected. for your help |

Ah, I had used the "insert image" button. Didn't know that didn't work on this forum.

Looks like Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) or something similar in the Prunus or Pyrus genus.

I agree, I think it is in the Prunus genus, and those sort of folded over serrated tips are typical of Black Cherry.

There is a bigger issue than identification going on. Something has girdled the sapling, note both a ring and a half around trunk near the bottom of first picture, and the missing top of leader in the second. If these are not before and after the rest of the top will likely be lost, otherwise it is almost trained like the idea form for a peach. About the ID, I agree that it looks like a plum or cherry of some kind. Mature black cherry leaves have orange fuzz along the underside midrib, but none can be seen from this angle. |
