Friends of mine are interested in buying a house with a Norfolk Island pine in the front garden. Its circumference is about 2.5 metres, and its canopy touches the house gable. I want to know if the root system is a potential danger to the structure of the house. There is no obvious damage at present.

I dare say you are in Adelaide with that post code. We have insufficient information to make any assessment. Subsidence is the real issue and that depends on the soil type and house's foundation.
