Default root pruning cuts

How do you make the pruning cuts for tree roots? Do you make a straight cut or cut a section out. Will the roots grow back together.

Why do you want to cut the roots?

Pictures?

Roots do not have the same landmarks to aim for that branches have but you can approximate "branch collars" at root intersections.

Be sure you expose all of the root you're cutting before you begin. Make the cuts cleanly with sharp implements.

An arborist with an airspade is always helpful to have around.

You need to very careful what roots you cut, yes its best to cut the roots cleanly with a sharp root pruning saw.

Be very carefull in choosing which roots to cut as the tree could very well fall over !

Post some pictures of the roots you intend to cut before you cut them so we can have a look and give a little guidance.

Yes sueann thats correct there is such a thing as an air spade, its a very good tool to have if you have to relocate a tree or install a root barrier.

Thank you Galbee. I've written that down in my notebook under Tools.
