Hi Everyone, I have had a slight whipper snipper accident and have ring barked a 40cm lilly pilly. Is there any way of helping my poor little tree before it dies? A tree band aid? I've given in a good watering and a feed of seasol. Brenticus |

A 40cm Lilly Pilly will run you between, what, $8 and $30? Maybe less, definitely not more. In my experience, any damage and loss of vigour in a small accident like that, it's more worth just replacing the tree. If it were extremely important to you, cuttings could solve that issue. Just remember, trees like mulch over their surface roots. Solves many problems, including whippersnippering. Edit: Forgot to mention, give it time. I've heard of odd grafting procedures of epicormic growth under the wound, back to the top but is it really necessary? I've also seen a Harpullia stripped about 15cm of cambium layer in some sort of absolute freak whippersnippering accident and it showed no loss of vigour, just a propensity to be very weak in that area. When a Logicorn Beetle ringbarks a tree, sometimes it will join back up, even a professional ringbarking will show some repairing from the top down/bottom up. |
