Default Relocating Palms

G'day

I have been asked if I can relocate 3 Cocos palms to a spot afew blocks away from where they are growing. Trouble is I'v never done it before.

I'm willing to give it a go if its not a massive job. The trees are about 15 feet tall x 12 inch diametre. How far around and how deep will I have to dig to get them.

I thought I would use a crane, Mini excavator and truck.

Any advise on the right way to go about it.

it would be cheaper/easier to buy established plants a bit smaller rather than remover/relocate.

i cant see it being less than $2k excercise to transplant versus about 1200 to plant new?

Anyone with a tree spade around?

Otherwise, I'd suggest a root ball be taken about 1m radius out from the stem, cone shaped (like an inverted cone). Sharp cutting of the roots can lead the them regrowing.

Once cut lift out with stem sling (not chains but synthetic slings) on a crane.

I estimate the cone of soil weight to be around 1300kg and palm to weigh around 500kg so total lift approx 2000kg should cover it. You can cut the inverted cone with a waterjet cutter.

Some preparation would be good. Trim the berries off, clean the head.
