Hi there,

I've had a read at a few messages relating my problem, they're interesting, but don't give me the exact info I need.

Yep, I'm infilling some ground. There's a large Walnut tree, that splits into 3 trunks at the level where it will be in-filled to. I need to in-fill 80cm. If I put a mesh around, 50cm away and in-fill with 3-5cm clean pebbles, would this allow the tree to survive? I would also put a material around the mesh so soil didn't block the pebbles and get to the tree trunk. Or can I just in-fill with soil straight up to the tree? ( I don't think so, but why not ask).

Come on please, I really need some help here.

Thanks

If the tree is growing on sand, and you are infilling with sand, the tree might have a chance -- maybe - and stay back from the trunk as far as possible. If it is a soil different from sand -- like clay, you would be better off to remove the trees, and after infilling, plant something else. 80 cm is a lot of fill. Generally speaking adding as little as 2 inches (5 cm) of soil on top of the roots will suffocate the roots and kill the tree,. How would you like to wake up and find you have to breathe thru 80 cm of fill -- do you think you would survive?

I want to see pictures and some measurements, like tree DBH, ht and spread.

For us to make an informed decision we need facts.
