Default Questions about Newport Plum

Our landscape architect recommended a Newport Plum near out patio, which we just planted. She said the tree will rarely produce fruit and it won't be much if/when it does. However, I have read conflicting information on the internet that says that fruitless plums eventually do produce fruit and can be very messy. In addition, I also read that they sucker profusely. What is the truth about "fruitless" plum trees, and is this a tree that should be planted by our patio? Thanks.

Yes Purnus spp will sucker up from pruning, correct pruning habits can help with significantly reduce this. here in NZ we have many cultivars of Flowering cherries that do not fruit, i do not know of non fruiting plums, but my knowledge is limited in this area.

Maby a dwarf Acer palmatum , Japanese maple is an option?
