Question pruning poinciana trees

Hi,

I'm looking for a little advice on pruning my poinciana tree.
I know that after pruning, they do sprount and regrow, but I'm not sure as to the best place to prune, if the cut needs to be sealed (and what with), and the best time of year to do it

Any help is appreciated.

No offence but the 4 questions above do concern me. It's good you asked them but I would say for your first prune/advice get a pro, watch what is done and discuss the why's with them.

On that note here in Brisbane there would be very few "pro's" I'd trust with the task. I see more mutilation jobs than pruning in most cases.

Poinciana's are not forgiving in where you prune them and they are soft wood so decay quickly and easily.

You can search through the forum to find information or you can pay a pro for either doing the job or consulting to tell you what to cut and where ... either way choose smart.

Just have a look at some of the horror threads of pruning in Brisbane on the forum, including large companies and govt.

Where abouts in Brisbane are you?

Hi there,

Poinciana is one of the world's most colorful trees. It’s also known as Royal Poinciana. If you are planning to prune such a beautiful flowering tree you should never take a chance. Go for an expert advice. I read an interesting article on tree pruning Can Trees Be Pruned In Winter? | by SavATree Hope it helps. Good Luck!

I see these poor trees butchered every day and spend a long time pruning as small cuts as possible because they are so poor at compartmentalising. there are always large branches that have died back because someone has cut a branch off (not even to target and or too big big wounds) and the branch dies back and the rot goes all the way to the centre of the tree. we have taken out five this week due to poor pruning, all with hollow limbs, hollow rotten bases it's such a pity for such beautiful trees to be taken out. wake up brisbane get a real tree person in not a hack.

Brisbane is full of hacks and cheap customers who take the lowest bid. I refer to it as COWBOY COUNTY.
