What is the correct way to prun/ trim an oak tree? Specefic time of the year? Any suggestions or rule of thumbs would be great. Thanks. |

Buster, that is one heck of question to answer. It's too big a question, like how long is a piece of string. Why prune? Prune what? How much? When: best in dormancy just before spring. Too many variables, we haven't even got pictures. Each tree has it's own needs, many don't need much pruning at all. You need to get some pics and elaborate.

Pruning hardwoods is best done in the dormant months and faster growing softwoods(ie. maples) is actually better during growing season.If you are dead-wooding , anytime is good.
