Unhappy Please help ID Maple Tree Problem

One of my maples has experienced partial leaf drop. I live in eastern PA and we had a very wet summer but only one tree shows these symptoms. I noticed the problem in July. I also noticed black spots on some of the limbs. The tree does appear to have next year's buds and the branches do not seem dead...at least they are still flexible when bent. I am worried that it may be verticillium wilt...please tell me it's not. Pics attached...I hope. Thank you in advance.

Where in PA?
The green stuff on the bark is lichen: an indication of clean air.
I don't know about the black dots on the bark.
I would try and send a sample to Penn States plant diagnostic lab.

Thanks. This site, once again, provides answers. The lichens are all over, but now I know they are not a concern. Here is an image of them covering a part of one of my (red?) maples. Also, a link to the US Nat'l Forest Service in a different TW forum post about lichens can be found using the search tool. Lots of pics and info there.
