Default Pleaching Quercus palustris "Pringreen"

Hello,
I'm hoping to learn how to take care of my Quercus palustris "Pringreen". My landscaper planted two rows of them instead of Irish yews or other trees that can be pleached. I am not sure that these oaks can be pleached. Since it is the fall I am considering pruning them to 10ft tall to create a hedge. Is this a bad idea? Should I let them continue to grow naturally? They are 15ft now in a city garden. Thanks!

I would say no as the Quercus palustris is a large tree to 70ft with upto a 1m wide trunk, they are slower growing and not as good at compartmentalisation the Quercus doesn't have as dense canopy either and you will really struggle with true training. you would have been better off with Hornbeam Carpinus caroliniana for pleaching.

I agree with Galbee. Trimming Red Oak to 10 feet is a really bad idea. You can still have a great hedge, it'll just be 60-70 ft tall. Now that's privacy!!

You didn't mention where in the USA you are.

The pin oak (Quercus palustris) can be a rather pathetic tree in anything other than a rich, acid soil.

If you wanted dwarf trees, you should have planted dwarfs.
