Well, I still haven't taken a photo of my apple tree yet, but my son today surprised me with the gift of a beautiful conference pear tree, Quince A. I am a little intrigued though as the pear has two main branches, its like an upside down y shape, the bottom part being quite short and then the top parts branching off very close to the bottom, it's quite 'flat' looking, not 3d if that makes sense? It has lovely green foliage and has some spurs (if thats the correct term) coming off the main branches, it looks like there has been some blossom in a 'clump' off one spur but the flowers have gone now and there is just the 'empty' flower left (bit like after pansies have flowered and you are left with the empty shell of the flower-again, if that makes sense?). The tree looks healthy, although there were a couple of leaves that looked a bit crumpled at the edge and on one I found a tiny tiny black looking caterpillar, smaller than the length of the end of my small finger nail? Can anyone help me with whether the shape of this tree is normal please? Also wether there is anything to worry about with regard to the leaves and the caterpillar type bug? There were a few tiny spiders too, black ones. The tree looks healthy otherwise with bright green shiny leaves. It is in a pot with what looks like a fibrous (almost carpet like) topping over the compost/soil. Can this plant be kept in a container or does it need to go in the ground? Sorry I have many questions but need to get this right as the tree cost £40 and I am worried I might not care for it correctly! I would appreciate any help and advice? Bev Pryor |
