I have what looks like a Bosc pear tree but the fruit are only about a quarter of the size of a normal pear. The tree is about 25-30ft tall, it flowers and fruits prolifically, seems quite healthy and I am guessing is about 40-50 years old. There is another tree on a neighboring property of about the same size and age, same size pears but this used to all be part of the one property years ago before it was divided up.
My dogs love to eat them, the chickens love them too but wondering why the fruit is so small and if we can use them for ourselves and not just as animal fodder? Is there a name for this tree? No pics sorry due to Winter.

Even winter pics can be useful -- tells us the state of the tree - so pics of buds, closeups of ends of branches, stem, base of tree - at ground.

IF the tree always has had small pears, sounds a lot like Bradford pear where the pears are considered ornamental -- I suppose they are edible, never tried one - too hard for me. THe idea is you have the enjoyment of flowers and leaves, and minimal fruit pickup - almost the ideal tree -- unless you want fruit. LOL
