Hi! Read one thread, but didn't answer my queston so I tho't I'd start another. We have a 25+ year old Mexican Fan Palm whose base has grown into, and is starting to break up, the block fence wall between our yard and our neighbors'. We are going to have the wall rebuilt - no problem. The question is, can the base of the palm be sliced on that side, without hurting the palm? Or, would a lintel built into the wall, to allow room for the palm base, be the better solution? Thanks.

Hi and welcome. ![]() How close is the trunk to the wall? Also, please try to put up some pics. How tall is the palm etc? It has been found that clean cutting and treating palm roots at distance greater than 1m results in the roots branching. However I feel even if you were to cut the roots they'd soon fill the new place, and meanwhile you have the stability issue. I'd go with building a stronger wall, but do try and provide the answers above.
