Default pachypodium lamerii,disease id needed.

I need your help,we have a pachypodium that is about 11 years old.we have always done right by this plant, every 2 years we re-pot this in the same mix as from tiny tree.we noticed something was wrong when this growing season started the leaves were short, contorted, very leather like,we looked up what could be causing this but couldnt point to any thing but a pathogen in the mix.my wife went to the local guru,s they said yep thrips spray with pyrethrum, which they sold to us,after a few weeks we went somewhere else, spray with lime sulphur they said.Today, when my wife was looking at the plant around the base something was wrong all the cambium layer gone dry and flaked off, showing us a brown and spongey hard wood.we have now cut it away from the root system, when examined totally lifeless.the inner section up to the hard centre was hair like fibres.it shows signs of Fusarium, phytophthora, armillaria, and the inner looks like its been hit by mycelium.its got me buggered.------AND just to top our day off computer refusing to post photos i hope my garble might shed some light.
