Default "new disease" in Britain's chestnuts

Millions of conker trees face being wiped out by deadly new disease | the Daily Mail

I don't know that I believe this is a "new" disease but rather one that has gone unnoticed - sort of like "sudden oak death" (SOD).

Anyone else know anything about it?
