Need suggestion on type of tree to plant
Hi,
I am looking for a suggestion on a type of evergreen/pine tree that will work for me. Here is a little info. I live on a farm in northeast kansas (just southwest of KC), and the spot that we are situated in tends to get with some seriously high wind speeds a couple of times a year during thunderstorms. A couple of years ago, we planted a row of 10 bradford pears along one edge of our property. Of those 10, only 4 still remain that have not snapped in one storm or another. Obviously, that's not working out so well.
We would like to plant some sort of evergreen or pine tree instead of the bradford pears. We'd like them to eventually serve as a windbreak, and be able to withstand the high winds they will be exposed to. My farm was originally my grandmothers, and when she lived here she had some beautiful big pines just where we'd like to plant new ones, but they all caught some sort of pine tree disease that is prevalent around here, and they all died. Hopefully you are familiar with what disease that might have been, because I sure don't know. I'd like to avoid any species that is susceptible to that if possible. Let me know if there's any more info I can provide to help with a suggestion.
Thanks!
