Hi All, ![]() My first post here. I recently bought a property here in Sydney, AU and have a couple of these trees in my backyard. They do not seem to be doing well so it is making it difficult on identifying them. New leaves are all at the canopy. Hope someone here can help me out. ![]() Regards, Rob |

Hiya, Thats what I thought at first, but the leaf/twig description of Camphor dont match this tree. I'm stumped (pun intended )sorry for the hand drawing, but the bare branches look like this, With each branch measuring anywhere between 30-60cm long Rob P.S - I think I may of posted this in the wrong category |

Could it be a sassafras?

Unfortunately not a sassafras. It may actually be a camphor laurel. I kinda hope it is so I can knock it down quick smart and get a friend to turn the wood ![]() Another thing to note is that on the branches, you will find some spines as well. Maybe a good 70% have the occasional spine similar to a rose spine Rob |

You'd be able to tell by smell if it is camphor laurel, just crush some of it up and sniff.

Maybe a Cockspur Coral Tree, Erythrina crista-galli. Third pic looks a bit like it. | |
