Default Need help identifying new coloring on tree

Hello! First of all, thanks so much for having this forum available so that arboreal "newbs" like myself can post questions for the professionals!

A few days ago I noticed our backyard tree (no clue as to what kind it is) had some weird pigmenting on the inside of the branches (I know the terminology must be incorrect, please pardon my mistakes). I'm attaching a link to a photo of the tree. Neither I nor my partner remember any discolorations like this in the 3 years we've owned the property, so we're really not sure if this is normal in the life/season-cycle or not. Any thought?

Looks like that didn't quite work, let's try the link again!
Let me just link to the page:

Well, you can probably tell I'm new to these boards because I cannot get a link to spit out correctly! Let's try this as well:

http://??????????.us/f/12/photo1ih.jpg/

Looks like the first part of the link is blocked, so try this:
the front part of the link should be"
(phonetic) "image shack" -dot- "us", then:
forward-slash "F" --
forward-slash "12" --
forward-slash "photo1ih" -dot- "jpg"

Hopefully that will work!!

The problem is photos must be posted to this server. And instructions were sent to you with your first email to join the site. So review the info, figure out how to post pics, and we will see if we can help you.
