Default Need Advise nails in a tree?

I have a place at the lake and want to hang a dusk to dawn light in a white Oak tree. Its a Huge tree! I know they suggest not to use nails but is there anything one could use to nail to the tree without killing it? Like galvanized or aluminum nails screws maybe? I was thinking of trying to find some kind of band to go around the tree to hold the light but dont think I would find such a thing or if it would hook up to the light.

Sorry if this was posted in the wrong area just wasnt sure to post this and thanks!

Pssst, do not listen to those fools who say rubbish like that, they have intellectual reasoning deficiencies IMHO.

I nail in tree tags with aluminium nails (aluminum for Yanks )

will an eyebolt through a branch hurt the tree?

Zip line | zipline (recreational) attachment technique?

Steel nails don't hurt the tree, just the chainsaw when the tree is being removed. Copper, aluminum, steel all do little damage to the tree -- even copper is so tightly bound to the nail it seldom leaches into the tree, and the size of the tree is such that it wouldn't be noticed. The bigger problem is getting the softer nails into the tree.

If you intend to use the lamp for many years, I suggest using stainless steel hanger bolts (with predrilled holes), and as the tree grows the lamp can be moved further out, even to adding connector nuts and extension rods to hold the lamp away from the tree.
