Hi, I have a paved pathway below a poinciana tree. Unfortunately the roots are lifting pavers. I do not want to damage the tree in any way. Is it possible for me to cut a section from the top of the tree root without damaging the tree. Regards morrie.

Errr, nope .... it will introduce decay. Better to ramp up over the root.

Paving stones set in gravel is another solution. What's more important- the tree or the paving? If it's the tree, leave it alone. If it's the paving, remove the tree. Cutting roots will lead to decay and potential failure. Paved areas are more likely to have people or cars in the vicinity making the tree with the severed roots hazardous. |

Thank you for the reply, The tree is definitely more important than the pavers. It houses orchids, a huge staghorn and with several nest boxes attached houses a family of possums and birds. Thanks again, regards morrie.

Why not lift up the walkway and reset the pavers 4 to 6 inches above the present level and give some protection to the roots to eliminate injury?
