Default Maple tree leaves dying

All of the leaves on the Maple Tree sprouted and were looking nice and green. Then, last week, all of the bottom leaves started drying up and are looking like they are burnt. The same thing happened last year, but this year it seems to be worse. What could the cause be? This is a new home for us on the lake.

pictures will help. but has it been a cool, wet spring?. if so it may be the same thing that happened to our maples a few years ago. it is called anthracnose. it is a fungus that causes the leaves to turn black and fall off. it usually will not affect the health of the tree. after the weather warms it will grow new leaves. but please post pictures so we can be sure it is that and not something else

We get it here on mango trees a lot, often when it's been really wet.

In orchards they spray.

But I believe you do not need to go that way, in fact I found this:-

Unless anthracnose fungi have repeatedly hit a tree in the past, we do not recommend the use of fungicides. Anthracnose diseases do not kill trees. Some defoliation may occur, but refoliation with healthy leaves follows in warmer weather. Concentrate on boosting tree vitality, which will promote new growth. Remove dead or dying branches, water in periods of drought, and mark calendars now to fertilize affected trees in the fall.

You'd be better off doing a compost tea drench far out to the drip line, here's a link to Aussie style products but you'd have similar over there.

The microbe arm mix and root extender is the go.

Also to be added is silica and seaweed products.

That will restore good soil biota and let this tree repair itself.
