Default Maple tree infestation

Hi, I live in Eastern Canada. I have a maple tree that has a big branch that needs to be cut down because it is really sick. The branch lost its bark, it has a lot of small holes and and the wood has a dark discoloration. I think the holes come from a bug called Longhorn Beetle because I saw something that looked like it in my backyard. Recently the branch started having large holes that were probably made by an animal like a wood pecker. Finally, last summer was much more wet then usual and this part of the backyard does not receive a lot of direct sun, so I starting noticing moss on the grass and at the base of the tree.

Do you think that the problem started because of the bugs or because of the moss on the grass?
Would you advise me to cut the sick branch only or to cut the entire tree?
Do you have any other ideas or suggestions?

You help is much appreciated!

Fred

The insect damage and moss is likely secondary;the primary cause may be from internal trunk decay which attracted the insects.
You should consult an arborist.
