Default Maple Tree--disease/injury--help!

I live in Gardner, KS which is in the northeastern part of the state. I have two young maple trees in my yard, both with the same problem. The bark is splitting and there are a few small holes. I was told by one person it could be a canker and someone else said is was extreme bark injury and the trees should be removed.

Can you please help me?

There's some healthy wound wood there.

Need to see some overall pictures and trunk flare pics.

good point Ekka, thats the first thing i noticed too. it seem's to be that the tree is responding well, to this injury, and ae ekka says good wound wood is present.

it looks as if a boring type insect has had something to do with it.........., but some better pics ( off Whole tree ect) and any info on what Species of tree, should help.

find a qualified arborist to assess before cutting it down. You can not put it back up.

whole tree picture and site description would help. Wind exposure, ice storm exposure, targets within striking range?
