Default Japanese Blueberry Tree black coating?

Our Japanese Blueberry Tree has developed a black coating on the leaves. A neighbor says it is a pseudomonas plant disease. Anyone know about this or the treatment?

Very hard for anyone to comment meaningfully without pics.....however does the black coating look a bit like this?

It could be sooty mould, an indirect result of scale insects or some other sap sucking insect. It is not uncommon for Elaeocarpus sp.

White oil to remove the sooty crap and spray with the ole Confidor to kill the bugs that suck!

Sap suckers secrete honeydew, mould spores attach and grow, kill the sap suckers kills the food source for the mould. However whatever mould is already there on the leaves will stay until washed off, that's where the white oil helps.

Or you can be a genius like this tree fool was and butchered the entire canopy to remove the problem (temporarily whilst creating a hazard tree).

Who are you going to call? Tree Busters!

Ekka please explain the ole confidor part, I have done a lot of work here on finding an eco-friendly way of getting rid of the suckers.

Attached are pictures. The top of the canopy is green, the rest is black (you can see the color on the mulch and concrete edging).

While it could be a scale problem it looks like (and is quite common around here) an aphid problem.

SaferŪ insecticidal soap mixed with Neem Oil should take care of it easily and safely.

Confidor active ingredient is Imidacloprid

Seems the better of the chemicals to use.

Bayer Confidor Garden Insecticide (Sachets) - Yates

What's your eco-friendly way?

We use different methods. Not really succesful however.
The first method is using Adalia bipunctata
This monster eats the lyces that produce the honeydew.

We hang the larve of this bug in the lower part of the tree.
They are delivered to us in small bags which contain 100 specimen.
How many bags depends on the diameter of the tree.
This method is used in greenhouses a lot and we also have good results with this method.
The other thing we use is a mixture made of garlic and some other stuff.

This stuff really stinks. We didn't have good results with our tests.

Your part of the world seldom sees cold temps - trees in your area sometimes put on 2 rings a year.

You can trim the blueberry whenever you feel the need. Farther north, you would wait until mid-February.
