Lightbulb Insects on Poinciana

Hi
We live in Mudgeeraba, gold coast - live on a rocky hill. We have a beautiful old (could be 20 years and up) poinciana tree. When in leaf it gets an infestation of green inch worm type grubs. first noticed the droppings last year, the leaves start looking a bit shaggy (sorry, its dark and I don't have a photo right now) although it happily grows new leaves in this present wet weather. the grubs are about 1 1/2 inches long, slim and invisible unless I can shake one off the branch! Any thoughts? We would greatly appreciate identification and advice. If you need photos please let me know. thanks in advance.
