Default Injured Maple Sapling

Hello, this is my first post here, and I hope I'll hear some good news regarding my little maple tree.

I planted it about a year ago, and it has thrived so far. Good growth, nice leaves, no dead spots, everything seems fine, except... something happened to the bark at the base of the tree (I suspect the neighbor's landscaper). Anyway, here's what it looks like:

Is there any hope for my tree? Can this be repaired? I don't mind if it looks ugly in one spot, I just want it to be healthy.

It's planted too deep, you should leave a space between the trunk and the mulch plus the trunk flare should be visible.

Dont worry about the wound, fix the above.
