Question ID this stump!

I found a unique mushroom growing out of this stump and I'd like to know what kind of tree it is...

It's in an eastern hemlock forest with no hardwoods around except for a very few, very small oaks (as you can see the leaves on the ground)... now I assumed it was an eastern hemlock stump (Tsuga canadensis) but am wondering if anyone can tell me for sure... the mushroom I found is not known to grow from softwoods...

here is a habitat shot

Unfortunately Eric has the system set up so only his system works, and your pics didn't work. Does the stump have any bark? Can you get a pic of cross-section of tree stump?

Question Re: ID this stump!

Can't see any pics, but don't forget, if your in the Eastern US, even areas that have Hemlock mature on them now, could once have had Massive old stumps stilling lurking around from the American Chestnut.---just a thought since I can't see the pics.
