Default I know nothing about maple trees!

I have a Autumn Fantasy maple tree that does not look healthy. Quite a few branches have no leaves but most have 10-20 leaves. It actually looks like the wind blew all the leaves off but this is how it started out this year. There is very healthy growth coming out at the bottom of the truck. It is in a very moist spot on our lawn (the centre that planted the tree knew it was a moist spot and indicated to me that this tree likes water). The tree gets direct sun for a couple of hours in the morning and then again mid afternoon.
Any advise would be great!!!! Thanks

Hiya Ginger,

What part of the world are you from?

Your tree's botanical name is: Acer rubrum. The leaf loss is quite normal as your tree is deciduous. A deciduous tree will loose it's leaves once a year for the winter, then come spring time it will grow new leaves.

As for the moist area, although tree's do love water, their roots also have to breath. So if the area that it is planted in is drenched in water then there is not enough oxygen for the roots and infact it is drowning.

If you could post some pictures of your tree, that always helps when we can see what we're dealing with.

More info please

In the lawn, do you use any lawn weed killers, whether spray, or weed & feed granules?
