A home owner is unhappy with the size of the eucalypts around his house, about 6 trees all over 15m, heaps of leaves and sticks, flowers and seeds on his roof and in the gutters. 3 out of the 6 had limbs overhanging the house which i have already removed. my question is, if the trees are so large already how can they be pruned enough without risking killing them. |

I am not familiar with eucalypts, but 30% trim is usually considered the norm for trimming trees. Some really aggressive trees can be trimmed more and still regrow - like Poplar, Manitoba Maple, Siberian Elm, Tree-of-Heaven etc

Very hard to kill a euc from pruning unless it is of low vigour, old, dying, drought etc. If over pruned they are likely to grow a lot of epicormics though, so if say you wanted to prune 1/2 the tree (no topping though) I'd say you could do it in one dose if the tree was real healthy, or do half this year and half next year. But kill it, that I seriously doubt.
