I just purchased 4 Thuja green giant trees that are only about 24" tall. I know July isn't the best time to plant trees, so I was wondering how long I can keep these in the pots they came in. Ideally, I'd like to plant these in October. Reason I bought them now is due to the discount. What advice can you give me? Thank you kindly! |

That's best determined by looking at the other end of the plant.

3 months isn't too bad,but judging by their size,i wouldn't wait any later tan October or else they may become pot bound.

So during the next couple of months, will I be okay simply watering a couple times a day? Any other tips for these guys that will help them survive until they go in the ground? Thanks!

How long can you keep it in a pot? Depends on the size of the pot |

I would not water them too much as this can cause root rot especially in winter months when ambient temperatures are low and the air is moist, remember plants in pots like to be kept moist not wet! so I recommend watering every second- third day. Having them for a length of time in a pot is OK, as long as it not too long and the dont become root bound (Thick curling roots). I suggest you use this time to "harden" them off. that is keep up the watering in the firsdt week or two and then slowly reduce it back i.e water app 500ml each day 1st two weeks then about the same but space it out of a longer period to at least 2-3 days apart. This will help reduce any shock when they are planted out. |
