Hello experts, I have few gums around my house and there is a twin gum just less than 1.5m from my main door that I need to ask to remove. Does any of you know is it is potential to get the approval from council to remove that ugly gum tree? because I don't want to waist of money to apply and loss money. Thanks. |

Ring them, find out the rules, then follow the procedure. ![]() Tree Management http://www.thehills.nsw.gov.au/Ignit...009%5B1%5D.pdf

Just give Council a call and they confirm that tree within 3m still need the approval. So...the "tree within 3m can be removed w/o approval" is a rumor. |

So, I'm a little confused everyone...! Are these new rules in SA already in place/approved and done with, or just in the "approval" process..??? Because if they are, I reckon I should start to get ready to get that large Norfolk Pine tree down, soon. The tree is certainly less than 10 meters away from the house...! ![]() My friend is going to be over the moon, even tough, I'm don't feel like getting up it, and or have to deal (handle in some way) with all that wood, not for a while ...!![]() Right hand gets surgery for Carpel tunnel on the 13/12/11, the left a couple of months later on while the wife, is getting her right hand done next Monday 21-11-11 and the left a couple of months after that...! what a Christmas we are going to have...! ![]() Cheers George |

@Jeff: Definately these gumtrees are within 1.5m from my main door steps as you see in picture, it's really close. Last time, an inspector came before reject my application, unfortunately I was not at home at that time to give more reasons. @nyodine: This is a approval process. My tree acctually more than 10 meter height, and trunk diameter is about 400mm each and 1.5m close to my maindoor steps. How can you get approval to remove that pine tree? |

Clearly the tree is protected and you need to ask permission to cut it down. If you fill in the paperwork and pay the fee, the council person comes out and decides, it might stay or go. Depends on the tree and the assessor who could be good or bad. So, you could engage a consulting arborist to assess the tree and if he feels it has to go (for whatever logical reason) then you have more weight to your argument. I see it has two trunks to ground level, that is not as good as one trunk so already I would be raising an eyebrow. Trees like that do split and fail. But there might be other options to make is stronger rather than removing it. So you can see those arguments will have to be played out, and a good arborist report will do that. When I am consulting if I go and see a tree and see that it should stay or that there is little wrong with it, I walk away and will not charge, nor will I write BS to get rid of it. You may want to penny pinch, but that is equivalent of representing yourself in a court room when the opposing side has a barrister, chances are you'll be done like a dinner. This is the system, I do not like it, I do not agree with it but it is the way it is, and I work with it. For clients of mine in such a predicament they can thank their council, I personally do not like blanket tree protection orders. But i know a bad tree when I see one. If the tree is fine I would tell you and walk away.

As this tree continues to grow no doubt it will get worse as each expanding trunk pushes against the other - unless I am mistaken there is a fissure to ground level Without proper assessment I would not trust it at all | |
