Hi all, Recently bought 3 Leyland cypress trees (Christmas trees) About 5ft.x3ft. Used root stimulater on them when i planted, soon I'm going to use fertilizer on them. On an average big do they get in a year? Thanks |

Usually....they get too big too quick for the places most people tend to plant them in. I hope you have allowed plenty of space. Do you plan to let them grow ala natural, or will the become some type of a maintained hedge? |

There gonna grow naturally. Plenty of space a least 15ft. apart I know they get HUGE thats why i planted them. How fast do they grow in a year on an average? |

Also, how about the Green pittosporum tree- Pittosporum tobira - 3 gal. pots, how fast do they grow in lets say a year's time? |

For leylands, 30 foot spacing would be a minimum. Fertilizers should be organic. They can be trimmed or shaped if desired. Deer will ruin the lower 4 feet if present. Spacing is necessary not only for growth but to minimize disease and insect problems. Watch out for red spider mite infestations. They need good drainage to do well. |
