Default how to eradicate bamboo

just wondering what the best method is to eradicate bamboo, preferably proven.
i'm thinking of cutting it down and then when new growth comes cut and poison that.
will that work, or do the roots need to be dug out?

my location is the sunshine coast, qld, australia.

Best way is to cut them to the ground and flood the roots. Preferaby flood the roots (or rhizones, as they are called) with muriatic acid mixed in. That is the acid that they common sell at HW stores for balancing the pH in swimming pools. Herbicides (including grass killer) generally do not work on bamboos that are well established. If you spray or dig up the roots, you have to get all of them. The rhizomes store energy and will just send up more shoots if you do not get them all.

I know because I make money removing bamboo for people that do not want it, and I sell it to other people that want it.

hello Bamboo you say, uhu no worries

get a posi track, start the job with this and finish it off with 4 in 1, or you can use you 4 in 1 bucket to just rip it out, then poison the dirt try to have someone there with a spray pay to poison it as your working,

the site of the bamboo is 45' degrees plus. digging roots wont work, erosion and access are a major issue. current paln is to do what is said in the first thread and then if the client is willing muclch it with sugar cane and puts some lemandra sp. in for sabilization and then natives that will shade that will shade.

how does bamboo go under shade?

does bamboo make the soil infertile?

There is also trees spotted in and around the site that the client is intent on keeping. i imagen the pool chemical would effect the nearest trees, is that right?

thanks for ya feedback.

get an excavator or something, unless your very experianced with a saw its very dangerous slashing it around ground level all day plus its extreamly labour intensive,

I've stump ground it in the past and that seemed to be OK, none grew back but it was some sort of ornamental non invasive bamboo.

If you cant grind or dig in that location, dont want to risk soil issues with chemicals it would only leave swabbing and re-application with round up etc wouldn't it?

Ask at your local Elders or Farm supply store what method they'd recommend.

yes ekka, that is another concern. there is one spot where the client has sprayed from his deck and no bammboo has grown back but the soil looks like its been in a furness (burnt) so to speak.

Hi ekka,
My husband makes thai-style bamboo furniture. Buying and shipping bamboo can be expensive, so this way I can help people clear out their overgrown bamboo and then recycle it!
