Hello! I am making a speech on how to saw down a medium sized tree. (when I say medium - I mean not so small that it can be pushed around easily and not larger in diameter than the saw blade) When I looked around for a standard method, I found various ways and I couldn't decide on the better way - the safer way primarily, and the most efficient way. I had four main questions: 1. On the face cuts -- Should the horizontal cut or the diagonal cut come first? --i.e., If I did the diagonal first, would it reduce the chance of sit-back? 2. On the back-cut, would a diagonal cut be more efficient than a horizontal cut? 3. How much higher should the back cut be above the face cuts? and 4. HOw much should be left in between the back cut and the face cuts? If anyone has an opinion, I'd be happy to know what they think! Last edited by Jeff Darby; 27th February 2009 at 10:51 AM. I agree with Therrin, make sure the back cut is horzontal and just above the Gob

I'm curious as to the context of your speech... Why are you doing it, who is your audience?
