Default How to diamond cut a medjool trunk

Please can someone tell me the proper way to diamond cut a medjool palm. My palm is about 8 feet tall and I would like to clear the trunk. It would make it look more regal. I called and the local guy wants about $500.00 to do it.
Thanks,
John

diamond cut/
pruned to a jeweled crown/
total clean up and crown contouring.

are some of the ways i've had customers call it.
without rambling on, 500 is quite possibly a fair price.
PICTURES paint a thousand words.
I wouldnt do this without an EWP, so there goes $300 of your costs (AUD/USD nearly same). and $200 for labor and cleanup, if there is anymore than a small/med amount on it, then $500 is very reasonable.

look at it this was, $500 - what it is gonna cost YOU to do = is it worth YOUR time? (remembering your still gonna have to dispose of green waste and return the EWP)......

Rob, he said 8 feet that's 2.4mtrs.

As much as I hate working on them $500 does seem a bit excessive for one that size.

ok wel here is what i charge if accessable with ht101:
  • min charge $150
  • by the frond $2each

I have seen many (maybe 15 or 20) over the years that i have taken (counted these without a whiff of an exaggeration) 300 fronds from it without removing a frod that lay at the horizontal to the palm.
(charged $400 for it as it was part of a larger job, this was all loaded into a trailer similar to Erics and stacked on the tray of the ute AND the ute full-length-roofrack) tared off at the transfer station 1200kgs in fronds.

So taking travel time&fuel out of the $400 component doesnt leave much for the operator. took 3hrs with HT101 (including tidy up cuts, over two passes) and two loads to the tip 800/450kgs) plus dragging and loading.

What i was saying was, do you have easy access and/or how much has to be removed. is it cut and drop or is it over a glass house etc.

....i do agree that $500 should NOT be the norm.

It sounds like the person quoting didn't want the work $500 for an 8 ft palm clean thats a total rip off yes they get dirty but the absolout max you should be paying is $200 and thats still pushing the boundaries of decency.
is the palm at th bottom of a steep hill?
is the palms access through a large building?
is the palm on an island in the middle of a swimming pool?

This is not a big tree with lots of Fronds as you can see by the picture - Trunk is maybe 5 feet. Just want the trunk to look nice. Do you use a knife and cut off the outer layer? A video would be awesome. Charge people to view the how to video!!

I think it's too small to work on yet, plus over pruned already and if you keep that up you'll get poor taper and head size.

Be a miniscule gem at this rate.
