I have a question, it's why I joined! I have spent countless hours looking this tree/weed up and have even asked a nursery that is clueless. does anyone know what this is?

That is Jimson Weed (Datura stramonium). Here's info on it. You'll find lots. Use caution. Datura stramonium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

I agree with Tree Specialist. I found the following on the web Brugmansia and Datura Many plants share the somewhat generic titles of Angel’s Trumpet; the two most frequently planted are Brugmansia and Datura. Though these plants share nicknames and have similar blooms and forms, there are differences. Brugmansia, a South American native will return year after year in most Southern US zones and Datura, also originating in South America, is an annual and does best when planted yearly using fresh seeds. Both plants have a trumpet shaped flower; that of the Brugmansia hangs from the stem while Datura’s flowers most often point upward. Brugmansia emits an enticing evening fragrance and appears to glow in the dark, making it ideal as a focal point in a moon garden. Under appropriate growing conditions and with proper care Brugmansia can appear to be a tree, but it is actually a shrub. Datura is considered by many to be a weed (jimson weed), but when grown for landscaping purposes it takes the look of a shrub as well. Datura’s fragrance can be described as spicy or lemony. Hi, definitely Jimson Weed, Datura stramonium; grows to 2m tall with long white or purple trumpet shaped flowers, an American weed, and related to the more "ornamental" Daturas, or angel trumpets.Nothing else has that distinctive spined seed pod with glaucous fleshy leaves. Cath. |

In this family of plants, there are 9 recognized varieties. For Brugmansia, there are perhaps a hundred hybrids. |

and it's almost an identical colour and the portion of the leaves i can see match in the general shape and visual texture.... but i don't know everything (as i'm slowly learning) and it's awesome to have the chance to watch you more experienced folk learn me in the ways of identification. | |

i just looked up jimson weed... no wonder i was confused, the only real difference i can see is the shape of the leaf and height/spacing of brances. castor beans have maple shaped leaves (as you obviously know) and wider spacing. but the jimson is definately not the only plant with that seed pod and leaf texture, i swear. |
