I have two very old maple trees in my front yard. This year the leaves have all gotten sticky and are dropping a sticky substance all over my grass. You have to wear shoes when you walk across and even then you end up with grass and leaves stuck to your feet! This morning, I discovered some bugs and eggs on a few of the leaves. They look kind of like lady bugs only they have soft bodies. Can anyone tell me what they are and how to treat it?!

lady bugs are eating aphids, which is good. it's the aphids that secrete the sticky stuff.

Great! So should I just let them do the work or is there something else I need to do? Thank you for your help.

White oil or confidor ... but kills the lady bugs too.

Give the lady bugs a bit of time, they usually sort it out. |

Also if you opt to spray, they will be back after the residual wears off. They are around all summer.
