Hi,
I had to cut down one of my maple trees last year that I lost to disease. I also have two others that are in decline. I have done some research on the net and also had a tree specialist come to look at it but still don't have a good diagnosis. The specialist thought it was shade tree decline but had no solution. I'm wondering if someone here could help. The tree by the drive is the worst. It lost a large branch in the winter of 07 (seen in picture) due to an ice storm. Seems like that side of the tree started to die, then the center. Last year the north side looked normal (about 1/4 of the tree). The leaves are small and are behind most of the other maples in growth. Also most of the south sid e of the tree is dead. The other tree in my lot had no damage but is also in decline with many of the symptoms as the one by the driveway. The tree seems to have only about half the normal amount of leaves. Also the leaves are small and a number of small branches are dying. The tree in the lot is next to the tree that die and was cut down. The tree that died had the same symptoms but died more quickly. I would like to know if this is a disease that could spread or if the maybe I could save the tree in my lot. Anyone have any idea what I'm dealing with? I was thinking maple wilt but the symptoms are not quite right. I can post more pics if needed
