I just moved into a new development in Tampa, FL. There are 2 types of trees in the neighborhood oak trees which are all doing good and maple trees (I believe) which ½ are okay and ½ have some sort of problem. I have 2 maples in my yard.. one is doing OK in the back yard (faces east) but the one in the front yard has strange scales on the branches and trunk and appears to be dying. Here are pictures of the branches, trunk, and leaves. I want to save my tree, can someone tell me what is going on and what I can do about it. That tree is a Sweetgum not a Maple. The "scales" are actually part of the bark and not a disease. It has a star shaped raised bark pattern. Of all the Sweetgum varieties this is my favorite one. Can we see a pic. of the dirt/grass below the tree? |
