Default gaffs

just wondering if any one has any experience in palms i'm using tree gaffs and the holes look alot deeper than all the other holes i'm looking at i wonder if i should of went with pole gaffs instead .phoenix az.

Depending on the palm but I usually use short gaffs.

there huge mexican fan palms erick .the smaller spikes probbly will be alot easyer to come down with ha ? I just dont feel like spending more money on rope and more gear for rappeling down yet i dont want to dammage the trees as much as possable any advice will help thx.

You might need longs if you have to stab through the criss/cross husks though?

I have both longs and shorts and switch accordingly, those palms can have a lot of debris left attached to the trunk.

You can buy just the gaffs alone and swap them out. Should cost under $100.

Gaffs typically are not supposed to be used while pruning but palm trees are not your usual dicot. There life flow is deep inside so gaff gouges usually do not cause disease or insects to enter. Monocots can be gaffed but it is cosmetic and lasts for years so discuss with tree owner FIRST! Carson

thanks irishjoy thats the most help ive recieved. It looks like we'll be going with the short gaffs, i'm new at this and any help is greatly welcome
