Hello arborists! My name is Joel, I'm 24, from Almonte, Ontario, Canada. I was approached by my father today with his digital camera in hand. He had to visit his home town of Chatham, Ontario, Canada; sadly to supervise the bulldozing of his childhood barn. While there, however, he made an interesting discovery, a growth of sorts on a tree. So he snapped a photo and brought it home to baffle the rest of the family. Can anyone identify this? Pardon my ignorance, but I spent hours on Google trying to figure this thing out and could find nothing similar. Is it a sort of fungus? Or is it simply a hornet's nest or a bee's nest? Thank you -- on behalf of my father -- very, very much. |

ore specifically, it is the fruiting body of the fungus - the portion of the fungus that reproduces.
