Ficus macrophylla leaves yellow & dropping

I planted a mature (10 ft) Ficus macrophylla (Moreton bay Fig) here in Spain some 2 years ago. It has grown very well but this year it is throwing off alot of yellow leaves (3/4 times the normal amount) for the last 2-3 weeks. There are alot of new leaf sheafs on the ground and new leaves are coming but it appears that some of the leaves that are dropping are not 'old'.In fact I looked at one small branch and the 2 leaves at the end were the only ones green. We had quite alot of unusual rain a month ago but the weather is nearly back to normal now. 25deg by day and 15deg at night. It is still on a watering system. We have rocky alklaline soil with some clay.What is happening? Any ideas please.
