Default Empty lot planting

We have 5 acres that is all hay with no trees. We paln to build in 5-10 years and want to plant some trees now so they will be established when we build. We have no water available, any help on what type of tree might work. 5 acres is in gainesville, FL.

I would first decide on my building plans, how big my house is going to be, size of my garage, where is my pool going to go, even if you have no plans for a pool plan were you might like it to go now.

Then I would go about finding out how big the trees I like are going to get at maturity, firstly look around your own neck of the woods to see what naturaly thrives there.

This approach will give you a good insight into what and where to plant your new sapplings, consider the lay of the land..which way natural water runs over your property this will help in the long term vigor of your choosen trees.

You say you have no water available, so it may be prudent to sink a bore to find your own supply.

Good luck with your venture it sounds to me you are looking at this sensibly.

I have no idea of your rainfall but if it is dry heaps of mulch will lower the need for water, and don't plant just before you are expecting the dryest time of the year.
Also pick trees that survive in your area with no watering by looking what is growing where.
