Hello Everyone, I have a question for you guys. My mother bought a weeping willow, I believe a year ago. She waters it every day and it has been growing fast and steady. About three days ago, we observed that a few leaves had dried out. We did not pay too much attention to it since they were just a few. Now, all of the leaves and quite a few of the branches are dry. While I was taking some pictures, I noticed that the thin branches have alternating sections of black and green. Please excuse my ignorance if they are supposed to be that way, but I thought they looked odd and were worth mentioning. I was wondering if anyone knows what is wrong with the tree and if it can be saved? I attached some pictures but I apologize for the bad quality, all I have is my cellphone's camera and I had to lower the quality for them to conform to the size requirements of the board. If you need more info or want more pictures, please let me know. Thank you in advance. |

The tree looks to be planted too deep this will suffocate the tree basically. excavate around the tree clean off the bark and mulch around the base NOT against the bark. it could also be getting too much water, watering everyday is unnecessary

Thank you so much for your advice. I'll definitely get that done ASAP. I'll post back when I see any changes.

The willow tree appears to be suffering from a few problems; 1.Planted too deep. 2.Possibly being watered too often. 3.Possibly has absorbed phytophthora disease also. Most tree problems are started in the soil so are hard to detect at first, looking at small photos without being on site is equally hard. Pull out the tree and observe the root ball,if it smells rotten or the roots are brown to black inside then 1,2 and 3 are probably correct. Carson |
