I may be aquiring a house in Tempe, Arizona, (Zone 8b). It has a large, ugly pulverized rock front yard that is begging for a tree or two. It needs to be: 1. Fast growing. 2. Sun tolerant (it's in the middle of the desert) 3. Tolerant of hard, sandy soil. 4. Be large enough to shade a one story house, and provide a "natural" carport. 5. Not dropping huge piles of leaves that have to be cleaned up. 6. Provide shade for other plants nearer the ground. 7. Not have weird, droopy looking leaves or other strangeness. 8. Not have roots that will damage the sidewalk. I want to look out my window feel like I'm in the forest. My own searching has the turned up the Common Hackberry. The front yard is about 20 meters (deep) by 30 meters (wide). Any suggestions? Thank you. |
